Like the contrast between choosing your friends and being born with relatives, small business can enjoy flexibility advantages and performance breakthroughs by effectively casting its players. But team building can too often turn out to be more like a dysfunctional than unstintingly collaborative family. Each step in staffing, from recruiting to incentivizing and leadership succession, can thus pose distinct challenges.

This month’s program will offer the perspectives of leaders who have navigated the cultivation of human resources from start to maturity, both for their own firms and in aiding other organizations. Their experiences cover developing effective incentive structures from compensation to non-cash rewards to shaping business environments to create network effects through improved customer capabilities.
